I was really pleased to find that the hostel was clean and looked striking, and my private room felt more like a hotel room, which was a nice surprise. The kitchen, though, was a huge disappointment. Guests can't use the stove, and there aren't any cooking utensils. For me, that takes away a big part of the benefit of staying in a hostel, where I usually expect to cook for myself.

The rooms look nice and are clean, but the noise carries straight through the house into them. At night and in the morning, you can't get a wink of sleep. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

We didn't really take part in hostel social life, but the other guests seemed relaxed and friendly, with no loud conversations late at night or in the morning. The garden is beautiful, and the common areas are well equipped. We had a small private room with its own bathroom, very cozy and clean, and a nice garden view. Pretty nice hostel in the centre of Ribeira Grande.

The design is nice and the place was clean. But there was no stove or oven in the kitchen, the vending machine took my money, and my emails got no reply. There was only one key card for the room, and it has to stay in for the power, so two people can't conveniently go their separate ways.

We had a huge living room and an even bigger garden, with a barbecue that was a big plus. We just had to buy charcoal, and we grilled dinner a couple of times during the week. We couldn't cook on the stove, but the kitchen was otherwise there for us to use, with all the kitchenware we needed, a fridge, coffee machine, and automatic vending machine. Perhaps one of the best hostels I've ever stayed in, with modern architecture tucked behind a traditional housefront.
