Mareta Beach Boutique Bed & Breakfast

Our room had a great view of the beach and ocean. It was comfortable and not especially fancy, but had everything we needed.

This was the worst place I’ve ever stayed. It’s nothing like a boutique hotel, more like a terrible hostel, and the service was the worst I’ve ever had. The receptionist Paulo was rude, unfriendly, and uneducated. Check-in was awful: he wouldn’t show me the room or help with my luggage, and gave me wrong information about local places. Later, when I went to ask him something, he stayed in an inner room instead of coming to reception, apparently expecting me to shout to be heard. Disgusting. At checkout I asked for help with my luggage because I’m handicapped and can’t carry it myself. He said he doesn’t do that. When he spoke rudely after I explained I needed help, I started recording him. He threatened to call the police. I told him to go ahead, but I think he got scared when I called them, and then asked an employee to help me. Our room was very basic. The so-called nice garden room faced a wall, the curtain was torn, and the bed and pillows were uncomfortable. Breakfast was low quality and very basic, served in a dark basement that felt nothing like a boutique hotel. They even expect you to cook your own eggs. The only good thing was the fresh orange juice. There isn’t enough parking, which is really inconvenient. The sound insulation is terrible: you can hear people upstairs walking as if they’re inside your room, the main door slams loudly, and people in the hall are audible. Simply a nightmare. There was no courtesy water or even toiletries. Do yourself a favor and don’t come. I’ll never be back. Definitely not worth the money.

The rooms are decent, though small, and the hotel is new, but it has no charm. I really disliked having breakfast in the cellar. There’s a sign saying you can take it upstairs to the terrace, but that’s impractical. The pool shown in the pictures belongs to maretta Beach Residence.

We spent two nights at Mareta Beach in Sagres, four of us across two land-view rooms. The location is excellent, close to the beach and right at the end of the Fishermen’s Trail, but our stay was mixed. Breakfast was decent, with fresh bakery bread, pastel de nata, a good choice of fruit, a Nespresso machine, and another basic coffee machine. The rest of the amenities didn’t quite match the hotel’s category or price. There was nowhere to hang wet clothes, which we’d had at each of the previous nine places we stayed, and seems pretty essential in a beach town. There was no kettle or hot water in the rooms or elsewhere in the hotel either. After several requests and explanations, reception eventually brought us hot water from the microwave. We appreciated the effort, but it took persistence and felt like an odd hurdle. Check-in was cold and unclear, with no explanation of breakfast or how to get to or use the pool area, so we had to figure it out ourselves. Staff seemed unfriendly throughout, though we don’t know why. The hotel has potential thanks to its location, but a bit more hospitality and basic comfort would make a big difference.
