Hotel Gameiro

I really liked looking out from the room at the train station, especially as a train enthusiast. The stay was comfortable and pleasant.

The top-floor family room at the back had a lovely balcony view, a bathtub, strong water pressure, and plenty of hot water. The beds were comfortable too, and I didn’t hear any trains. Church bells at 9am woke me once, which I actually preferred to an alarm. I asked for a room with a bathtub and got the family room shown on the website. I came alone and never felt unsafe. The station really is a two-minute walk away, and the route to the hotel goes through a well-lit parking lot, which helped when I arrived by train around 10pm. I’d forgotten my wall adaptor, but the night-shift staff member kindly lent me a wall charger with a USB port for my phone and battery packs. The staff’s English is limited, so bring Google Translate if you don’t speak Portuguese. They’re very accommodating when you need to use it. Breakfast was fresh and clean, and I enjoyed it. It was pretty standard and served until 10am. I’m very grateful to the staff. Great service!

The reception staff were very friendly, welcoming, and helpful, so that’s what earns the stars. The room was clean, but the mattress was much too soft, the pillows were uncomfortable, and the curtains were broken. There was noise from the train station early in the morning. Breakfast was a disaster, and the coffee was terrible.

I left valuable items in the room and called the next day, only to be told they had “thrown them away.” That seems like obvious theft. Awful service. Don’t trust this place.
