Ocidental

We used the hotel as a base for two days of sightseeing. There's a snack bar and grocery store nearby, and with our expectations kept modest, we weren't disappointed. The staff were friendly, welcoming and attentive, probably the best part of our stay. The hotel and rooms felt a bit dated, though the PTAC unit kept the temperature comfortable. We could leave the balcony door open most of the time and felt almost right on the ocean. The mattress was firm, like an old camp bed. The shower wasn't great either: its old shower head was quite painful. Breakfast was minimal, with bread, cheese, jams, peaches, dry cereal, juice and coffee.

I went back in November 2025, and the hotel had had a great makeover. The rooms were sparkling, with heat/ airwall units installed, and housekeeping was discreet while keeping high standards. The food was well organised and nutritious. Staff were simply over the top, professional, helpful, informative and friendly. It's still in the best location next to the spectacular Atlantic ocean pools, with a few restaurants nearby, a Summer swimming pool, and the airport within walking distance. On my January 2024 visit, it was cold, but the friendly, informative staff gave me a heater. The location was great then too, and the place was clean and close to town. A really great hotel.

The view, service and price made up for the hotel feeling a bit dated. Breakfast was plain but adequate, and the mattresses were hard. Most restaurants were an easy walk, 15 minutes or less.

Staff were friendly and helpful, and they brought a small space heater when I asked. The rooms were cold, though there were plenty of extra blankets. I only ate the provided breakfast and didn't like it. Our flight was cancelled and we were given this place for the night while waiting to leave the island. It was okay for that, but I wouldn't choose it for a holiday.
