The Pallet - Guest House

We picked it for the airport location and the good comments about that, but the rooms sit right over a terrace and it was really noisy. I barely slept before my early flight, and the very hard bed didn't help. The place could use some updating.

The airport is close enough that it made for a rough night, with the last plane at 1:30am and the first one at 4am. The beds were some of the most uncomfortable I've had in a long time. The location might suit someone in their early 20s who can sleep on a rock, but we wouldn't recommend it otherwise.

We were able to walk safely to the airport in about 20 minutes, which is handy for a morning flight. Eduardo was on time, easy to reach, and check-in went smoothly. The outside looks a little unappealing, but inside it's really cute, with what seems like handmade details. Our room was spacious and clean. It's a low-cost place, so keep expectations modest, but I slept like a baby.

There are plenty of shops, restaurants, bars, and even scooter rental nearby, with bus stops close by for Funchal or the East Coast. SAM serves this area, while Rodoeste covers the west, and you can buy tickets on the buses. The town is lovely, near the airport, beach area, and a pretty church, yet it's mostly quiet for a central spot. Leonor and her husband, who also run the nearby bar, were so friendly it almost felt like family. The rooms were a bit cold in winter, but I got extra sheets. There are three rooms, two bathrooms, plus showers in a separate room, which is very convenient. It's had fresh paint and more renovations are planned. A great hostel for staying near the airport in a lovely town.
