Quinta da Pousada

We had an optional Port wine and ame tasting with Antonio, and it was superb. He shared lots of information about Port wines, and getting to taste very old ones made for great memories. It felt much more personal and interesting than tours at the large adegas. The Pousada itself is lovely, with beautiful rooms overlooking vineyards down the valley. There are hammocks and loungers where you can relax, as well as a nice swimming pool. Antonio is a great host.

The hosts were warm and welcoming, and went out of their way to make our stay special. The host’s Port tasting was incredible. He told us about the farm’s history and how Port is made, and his enthusiasm made the experience especially memorable. We even tasted a 1959 Port. The breakfasts were wonderful, and we enjoyed a delicious supper too. We spent two memorable nights at the Casa de Campo, a tranquil spot a short distance from the main Douro Valley, with spectacular vineyard views. The accommodation was first class, with amazing architecture and an impressive picture window.

We took some lovely walks nearby, with the hotel cat tagging along and leading us around. The breakfast was really good too, and I only wish we’d had more time to enjoy it. It’s a lovely place for a quiet weekend away from the city and its noise. Recommended.

The view was amazing, and our room was too. António and his family have owned this beautiful place for many generations. When we arrived, Andre greeted us with a friendly, polite, very talkative welcome. He looked after us throughout our stay and had lots of good stories to share over the Port tasting and during our first evening. We’ll definitely come back next year!
