The beds were okay, which is why I'm giving two stars instead of one. We stayed one night in mid-January, and there was no hot water. We called the hotel, but they insisted it was working. The bedroom heater would have been enough, except it kept switching off. My husband got up five times during the night to turn it back on, or the room would've been freezing. There was no heat in the bathroom.
They cleaned our room every day, and it was handy to leave our luggage there after checkout. We also got free espresso and water. Really nice rooms, a warm, friendly feel, and a great location with lovely staff. Thanks for a good time in Coimbra!
The room itself was decent, but there was no air conditioning. We chose this place over several others because it said it had AC. The unit in the room wouldn't turn on, so cooling seemed to depend on whether the hotel manager switched on a main system in his office. Even then, we had no real control. It would run for 15 minutes, then shut off once the room dropped below 80°. The room was miserable. The owner wouldn't move us or give us a refund. There are lots of other nice places in Portugal in the same price range, so I wouldn't recommend staying here.
There isn't an elevator, but I was on the first floor. The room was a good size and looked out over the park across the street. The bed was comfortable, the shower water was hot, and the staff were friendly and spoke enough English.
