Quinta dos Tesouros

A restful place to stay, with nearby seaside towns easy to reach by car for sea caves, local food and a taste of life there. You can even drive into Spain if you fancy it. This quaint hotel in a small town in South Portugal is clean and lovely, with very Portuguese decor, large balconies and verandas. It has a pool for cooling off, comfy seating areas indoors and out, plus books and games. There’s also a little olive plantation with a gnarled tree over 2000 years old and a 1500 year old carob tree, giving the property an old-world feel. A homely, lovely lady runs the place with friendly staff. They also run a pastry shop on the adjacent plot, where breakfast is served. The orange juice is fantastic and the breakfast wholesome.

Fatima made us feel so welcome when we arrived late, tired and hungry after a day of travel. She gave all four of us a seafood dish she’d made that day, iced water and coffee, then a sweet bread and cinnamon dish she’d made too. The bedrooms were spacious and clean, with a bath and shower, and the beds were very comfy. Breakfast was served a little way up from the Quinta at pastelaria Tesouros da serra. It was a set meal of meats, cheese, bread, yogurt, pineapple and mint juice, and coffee. We enjoyed a swim in the pool, which has both shallow and deep ends. We’re leaving reluctantly after a lovely, hospitable stay. They also understood our daughter’s additional needs well. Thank you, Fatima. We’ll be back.

We stayed here last October with a group of MTB riders and didn’t feel welcome. Owner Fatima sent her husband to accuse us of stealing a boiler and two cups from the room. That was obviously a lie, because we hadn’t taken them. The place itself is nice, but the staff smile to your face and speak badly about you behind your back. I don’t recommend it.

A good place to unwind. The saltwater pool was great for cooling off, and the rooms stayed cozy and comfortable even in September heat. The Covid Breakfast was good, and the coffee was excellent.
