Adegas do Pico

The setting was excellent, but this was our worst stay in the Azores. There were two major problems I wish I’d known about before booking. The house was full of insects. Ants, spiders, and even centipedes appeared throughout, including in and around the bed, so it was hard to relax or sleep. We love nature, just not sharing a bed with the insects. The downstairs cabin also smelled strongly of mold and couldn’t be used. None of this was disclosed in the listing. When we raised it, staff brushed us off with “this is just nature” instead of showing understanding or apologizing. The villa didn’t seem to have proper pest control or cleaning. The WiFi was another serious issue. It was listed as available, but it wasn’t. At first we believed the hosts, who said the listing mentioned it, then we checked and saw that it did not. When we pointed this out, they ignored what we said and glossed over it. Their response is shown in the photos. Our dealings with the hosts also left us feeling that the information about the property’s condition had been deliberately and maliciously misrepresented. We had no choice but to rate it 2/10. The other media attached, taken during our stay, shows the kind of visitor you might find each night after a tiring day out exploring.

We only stayed one night, and really enjoyed it. The little house felt charming and secluded, with no neighbours around and a wonderfully quiet atmosphere. It rained a lot, so we didn’t get to enjoy the view or garden much, though we could imagine how lovely they must be.

The receptionist was fantastic. She sorted out problems for us late in the evening and shared helpful tips on local food and scenic spots. The small house was clean, with a lovely setting and a great view. It had all the basic kitchen equipment we needed, and the stay was a great experience. I’d definitely recommend it.

We arrived in low season after booking only about an hour beforehand, and they kindly got the house ready for us so quickly, including warming it up. We stayed in one of several spaces on the property, possibly Adega de Farol. It was spacious, clean, and cute, with a country and seaside feel. There was everything we needed to cook, do laundry, and enjoy a glass of wine. They even brought us a few breakfast things, which was lovely. We initially booked three nights, but the cozy house and peaceful area suited us so much that we extended our stay through the end of our Pico trip. Thanks, and keep up the great work!
