Solar do Carvalho

Mrs. Helena is a wonderful owner, caring, helpful, and open with people. The room and bathroom were very clean, with daily cleaning, and guests can use a shared living room and a well-equipped kitchen with a stove, toaster, coffee maker, oven, and fridge. There's also a shop nearby and a restaurant with good, inexpensive food. I recommend the breakfast option, you definitely won't leave hungry. A tray of delicious Madeira wine waits in the living room for a good night's sleep. The house is in the center of the island, so everything is close. If I come to Madeira again, I'll definitely stay here.

The central location made it easy to explore Madeira, with every corner of the island within about an hour's drive. We stayed in a spacious, well-kept ground-floor room with a double bed, and daily housekeeping kept it consistently clean. It was a peaceful getaway. You'll need a car to get here. The communal kitchen is handy, though sharing it among several rooms may require coordination. Breakfast choices were modest but enough for us. Wi-Fi in the room sometimes struggled because it was far from the router, which encouraged us to disconnect and enjoy the surroundings. Despite those small drawbacks, we had a comfortable and convenient stay in Sao Vicente, and would recommend it for a quiet Madeira visit.

We spent 10 nights at Solar do Carvalho and couldn't have picked a better place for our Madeira holiday. The five-room house has a spacious shared area and a fully equipped kitchen. From the balcony, you can watch both sunrise and sunset, with breathtaking mountain views. It’s ideal for anyone after peace and nature. A great base for seeing much of the island, and only 25 minutes from Funchal. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, breakfast is generous, and there are lots of extras. Most of all, the host is wonderfully welcoming and makes sure you enjoy your stay.
