Solar dos Carvalhos

We spent the evening using up all the firewood in the cozy kitchen with its fireplace. The hostess was really friendly and ready to help with anything we needed. It’s an old manor house with plenty of character. The room had a heater rather than air conditioning, which is normal for this kind of accommodation. I’d recommend it for a different kind of overnight stay.

The hosts showed us the kind of hospitality Portugal is known for, and it’s a place I’d happily visit again. It’s a peaceful spot for a holiday or just a few days away from the city. The rooms are comfortable and have equipped kitchens, and there are several sitting rooms with sofas that make you want to nap in the quiet village. Outside, there are hammocks in the trees and tables with chairs for spending warm afternoons together with a refreshing drink.

At night they lit a fire in the huge kitchen so we could enjoy a small meal there. We were welcomed warmly, and they were happy to show us around the manor house. I liked the atmosphere, with a house full of history and things.

Staying here is an experience in itself, thanks to the unusual decor and the place’s history. It’s very welcoming, and the hosts are excellent. The location is great, with easy access and good public parking. I recommend it.
