This house feels like something out of a fairy tale. Its style sits somewhere between Greek and Swedish, and it feels cozy. It's in the old town, up in the highest part of this lovely Algarve town, so the view is beautiful and romantic.

We spent a night in the little village of Silves, in a historic and very romantic place laid out over three floors. The top floor has a small terrace with an umbrella, a lovely spot to watch a fabulous sunset. Getting around means going up and down the stairs, so you need to be adaptable and have a good head for heights. Still, it's definitely worth it. Thank you.

Silves is a beautiful historic city, full of culture, tradition, and life. Take a walk through the narrow, picturesque streets in the old part of town, then climb to the top where the Sé Catedral stands and enjoy the magnificent view.

It's sad to see so many historic buildings in Silves left to decay. Without restoration, they'll gradually collapse into rubble. At least many facades are being kept upright, even as the interiors are stripped out and trees and shrubs grow inside. The one upside to all this ruin is that storks can build big nests there.
