I chose Tavira for a two-night Mother’s Day trip to Portugal, hoping for a quieter town after visiting Albuferia before. I booked breakfast and dinner, since all-inclusive didn’t seem necessary for such a short stay. At check-in, the guests ahead of me were offered welcome drinks, but I wasn’t. I can only guess it was because I hadn’t booked all-inclusive, though I don’t know the reason and didn’t ask. In my past all-inclusive stays, hotels hadn’t offered welcome drinks either. It left me feeling that guests who didn’t book that option might matter less. As a solo woman, I had an odd feeling about the welcome. Apart from one member of the waiting staff, I didn’t feel particularly welcome or unwelcome. I’ve travelled alone before, but if this had been my first time, I might have felt apprehensive about doing it again. I hadn’t thought before that a hotel might not know how to make solo travellers comfortable. The room was okay but could have been cleaner, and the bed was uncomfortable. I also didn’t know that half board didn’t include a drink with dinner, as it was my first time booking it. I found out on my second night and was upset by the way the waiter spoke to me, which put me off my meal. I spoke with assistant manager John David, who was helpful and accommodating. The food wasn’t bad, but the buffet was very small. I don’t eat meat, so there was only one vegetarian dinner choice. Fortunately, it was nice. Tavira is a lovely town, but if I return, I wouldn’t stay at this hotel again.

The rooftop lounge was a lovely place for a romantic dinner, with stunning Tavira sunsets and views stretching from the town to the ocean. The hotel is also just a short walk from the historic downtown and has all the amenities you could want. What keeps bringing me back is the staff. From arrival, they went above and beyond to make my stay comfortable and memorable. Their warmth makes you feel part of the AP family, and the closeness among the team is clear. They really know how to make a guest feel appreciated. I highly recommend it, it’s always an unforgettable stay.

A really good option for a golf trip and excellent value. The hotel is spotless, the rooms are comfortable, and the restaurant is superb. Breakfast stood out in particular. There are a couple of pleasant bars, the staff are welcoming and professional, and getting into town is easy from here.

The location is excellent for walking into town, and the rooftop bar has a great view of Tavira. Staff were kind and very helpful, and breakfast was good. The hotel is lovely overall, though some areas are a bit worn, with leaking pipes on the main terrace and peeling paint in a few spots. The bar snacks have limited choice and are a little expensive.

There are lots of thoughtful touches here: a welcoming glass of wine, flowers for the ladies on Sundays, a piano player at breakfast, and a delicious, generous breakfast. The staff try hard to make it a nice stay, and it’s great value and close to everything. The beds and duvets were great, as were the balconies, large towels, and shower. There are USB ports on both sides of the bed, plus a Turkish bath and sauna. Wonderful hotel and staff.
