Redondo Lodges

The chalet was small, dirty, and missing basic essentials. Mosquitoes kept bothering us, and I got badly bitten by a giant horsefly. The nearby kennels barked loudly all the time, making for terrible nights. I can’t imagine how anyone in a tent manages to sleep there. We came late in the season despite the bad reviews because one had praised the food, but there’s no chef anymore. The only nearby cafe or restaurant was never open when we passed. The small pool area looked nice, but the water was green, and the rest of the site was very basic and run down. Shockingly overpriced. We’ve stayed at Pelinos site before and loved it, far better. It’s five minutes down the road, go there instead.

This campsite is ridiculously overpriced, a total rip-off. There were no prices on the door and nobody around at normal arrival times, only a sign telling people to pitch up and settle the bill later. Then you’re stuck paying. Total crooks. It’s a shame because the place could be really nice. The young guys we spoke to were lovely and clearly embarrassed. We’d have stayed a few days if the owners weren’t so greedy.

The staff were all so friendly, and they tried to help when one of our girls was stung by an insect. We really appreciated that. The site has a bar, a gorgeous pool, and clean, well maintained toilets and dishwashing facilities. There are shady pitches for campers among the trees and greenery, plus a meadow with tent spaces and some shade. The chalets looked nice from outside, though we didn’t go in. We booked three nights with our camper and stayed an extra one because we liked it so much. There was a very friendly chef who made us burgers and fries, even though usually you need to order a day ahead. They were the best homemade burgers and fries we’ve ever had. Thanks for a lovely stay!

Our pitch for the campervan was covered in cigarette butts, so I picked them up. We paid €6 each for two washing machine tokens, but the first one ran out during the first wash, meaning one load cost €12. The toilets were clean but had no seats. The toilet paper bin wasn’t emptied for two days, which was unacceptable. Both showers need fixing, the heads are broken on the poles, and each shower costs €1. The British owner gave us a warm welcome and the surroundings are beautiful, but reception wasn’t open at the time stated on the notice. Food promised for our last night never appeared, so we returned early from Tomar to eat. That evening several guests found reception closed, with the phone ringing constantly. Late arrivals made a lot of noise while setting up, and it continued until 1am. It’s handy for visiting Tomar, but there’s little else. Once guests have booked and paid, the owners seem to leave them to it. We’ve stayed at nearby camping Pelinos before and would choose that one again.
