We spent six days as tourists and friends in the home of Mrs. Gilda and Mr. Fernando at “Olhares do Douro”, near the mouth of the Sabor river. The house was a magnificent place to stay, and the setting was just as special. The views of the Douro really do live up to their name, and they washed away our memories of the year's bad times. What stayed with us most was the way Gilda and Fernando looked after us. They treated us as people, not customers, and surrounded us with a kindness that was the best part of those six days. Our little holiday ended with a sweet taste of friendship and beautiful surroundings. “Sabor” means “flavor” in Portuguese, and the name will always remind us of this lovely break. Thank you, Mr. Fernando and Mrs. Gilda. We certainly dream of the next “Taste of Paradise”.

The hosts were so pleasant, and the view was stunning. The house was spotless and had air conditioning as well as a fully equipped kitchen. We'll definitely come back!

Our hostess Gilda was generous and really friendly. She suggested an excellent restaurant in nearby Torre de Moncorvo and made us a lovely breakfast with homemade jams and salami. We had a great time at this lovely farm in Foz do Sabor, right on the banks of the Douro River. Grapevines, olive trees, and orange trees surround the house, with beautiful views of the river and valley.
