Hills Hotel Lisboa

We picked this hotel for my birthday and I’m so glad we did. Jorge upgraded our room, and the team also left me a bottle of champagne that day, such a thoughtful surprise. The terrace has a stunning view, and we loved hanging out there. Everything was spotless, from the room to the shared spaces, and the service and facilities were lovely. It’s also easy to get around by public transport, with lots of good places within walking distance. We’ll be back!

The rooftop view is fantastic, and the room was cozy and clean. It was a little small, but totally fine, and I thought it was worth the price. Really enjoyed staying here.

The rooftop bar was nice, and our room was okay, with a balcony. The reception also looked good at first and let us check in early. Getting into the center was easy, about a 10-minute walk to the bus or metro. But the electricity wasn’t working, and the broken balcony door wouldn’t close. When we raised it, reception said, “we are just Reception what should we do.” You can leave luggage there for a fee: €5 for a small bag, €10 for medium, and €15 for large.

On my second night, around 10pm on 1st November, another guest tried to get into my room. I’d come back and seen the same receptionist on duty, then heard someone at the door. When I checked, there was a guest with her luggage and my key card. The receptionist had checked her into my occupied room. We were both frightened. I’m a solo female traveller, and after that I put my shopping bags against the door as a barrier in case it happened again. I was awake when it was a woman trying to enter. What if I’d been asleep, or the person had been a man? This should never happen, especially at a supposedly 4-star hotel. I told another receptionist the next morning. She apologized and said she’d pass it to the manager, who hadn’t started the shift yet, and promised to investigate. That evening, the receptionist involved smiled at me without apologizing. Later I found a €5 bottle of white wine in my room, presumably meant as compensation. It felt insulting and nowhere near enough for what happened. No manager contacted me, and I got no formal apology or explanation. I don’t even have the information needed to file a complaint with head office. I’d strongly advise future guests, especially women travelling alone, to avoid this hotel. It should be investigated. Even the basic service was frustrating. When I asked about the daily complimentary water that hadn’t been left, the receptionist told me they had no idea what happened there and just came in to start work. Then they lectured me about room service, and I had to keep clarifying that I only wanted the complimentary bottle. I’ve travelled widely and stayed at many 4* and 5* hotels, so that response was especially unhelpful. There seemed to be no ownership, communication, or teamwork among the staff, and I’d expected basic security and professionalism despite the hotel’s 4-star rating. I also found a spider in the room.
