Casa do Quebra Costas

A really cozy, clean place right in the city center.

The historic center is the main plus here. We had meant to book Graça Garden, but it was full, so we were offered Quebra Costas. I’m glad it was only for a weekend, because I wouldn’t have found it comfortable for a longer stay. The damp smell was strong, the bathroom smelled bad, and there was some noise. It also would have been useful to have a first aid kit, as some other accommodations do, and I didn’t see the usual safety procedures for public lodging. Even for budget accommodation, I expected the cleaning to be impeccable. I took photos, but decided not to post them so as not to cause too much harm. The floor was visibly dirty, there were hairs on the sheets, the bathroom was dirty, and the kitchen felt sticky, with many signs of little or no cleaning. The worst part was behind the bathroom door mirror, where the accumulated dirt was impossible to miss when opening the sliding door. It seemed like the place was not cleaned or disinfected at all between guests. It’s a shame, because the almost vintage decor is reasonably nice, but there’s a lot to improve. Communication with the staff or hostess was very brief and didn’t make them seem very accessible. Sadly, I wouldn’t return.

Staying at Quebra Costas really does feel like a punishment for your back. The room was tiny, smelled damp, and was in deplorable condition. The bed was miserable and so uncomfortable that it felt like sleeping on the floor. The photos are misleading and don’t match what’s really there. A disgraceful experience. I don’t recommend it.

I don’t recommend it. A terrible experience, with nowhere suitable to sleep and no proper hygiene. Truly awful, I’ve never seen anything like it.
