Fernanda was a wonderfully welcoming and hospitable hostess, and breakfast had a good range of choices. Our room was very comfortable, one of several in the owners’ large, characterful stone house. The extensive grounds and garden were immaculately kept, with a big swimming pool and a shared kitchen in an outbuilding. The maid cleaned daily, and fresh towels were provided most days. Carreco is a few kilometres from the attractive town of Viana do Castelo, with a superb beach about 1.5 km away. It made an ideal base for exploring Minho, a beautiful part of northern Portugal that British visitors don’t seem to know very well.

The hostess was so friendly, and breakfast was wonderful: homemade jams, fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, tea and coffee. The interior was clean, attractive, and well cared for. Outside, there’s a lovely garden, farmhouse buildings, pleasant facilities and a kitchen with a shared fridge. The pool is clean and chlorine-free. Everything sits in green, beautiful surroundings, not far from the beach. Need I say more?

I felt at home straight away. Loved Casa do Nato, the swimming pool, and the eight-ball pool in the living room. There’s a lot to explore nearby too, including Coral Beach in Carrecio, about a 15-minute walk away, as well as plenty of other nice, uncrowded beaches.

It’s a nice, renovated big house with a lovely garden and pool. The only downside is that the rooms aren’t well soundproofed, though that’s very common in Spain and Portugal.
