Villa Rey Spa Hotel

The hot pool and jacuzzi were clean and amazing, and breakfast had lots to choose from, including fruit, pastries, bread, and more. We really liked the hotel. The receptionists were attentive and respectful.

I spent six nights here. The room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, and the hotel felt new, with facilities that were well maintained. The staff were very friendly. Breakfast, though, starts at 8 a.m., which really surprised me, and the selection felt very limited for a four-star hotel. Housekeeping also didn’t change my towel very often.

The hotel looks modern, but I only used the spa, so the maintenance elsewhere may be just as bad. In the spa, the sauna was out of service, and we only found that out after paying. The shower cabin had mold from floor to ceiling and a rusted lock. There were no lockers or wardrobes for street clothes, so the options were a random chair in the toilet or wearing dirty street shoes into the spa. The steam bath was lukewarm and made a jet-engine noise whenever it heated. Paint was peeling off the pool walls, and a three-year-old was watching Peppa Pig loudly on a tablet by the pool, despite the area being marked for ages 14 and up. There was mold growing in a corner of the jacuzzi too. Later, the steam bath broke down as well. When I told the friendly staff about it, they looked puzzled and offered no refund or discount. This place is highly recommended for archaeologists who want to see what twenty years without maintenance does to a nicely designed space. The spa is basically a scam. There’s a perfectly fine public pool with a sauna and gym 200 meters down the road. It’s less fancy, but everything works, and it costs under €10 for the whole day instead of €25 for two hours. Your call.

It’s a new hotel, and the staff still seem a bit inexperienced. The rooms are quite large, and the spa area is nice. The pool only operates in warm weather. A good option if you’re visiting to walk in the surrounding area.
