Casa Tradicional da Vila

Such a cosy, authentic country stay, exactly the kind we look for. Duarte was a wonderful host, and the location made exploring San Miguel easy. We’d put this among the best places we’ve ever stayed. It has literally everything you need.

We spent an unforgettable New Year’s Eve by the fireplace, and the house felt like visiting my grandparents. It’s full of little family and Azores details, including lots of lovely crochet, right down to the toilet paper holder. I don’t know how the owners keep it all so spotless and tidy, because that must take a lot of work. This was my second stay in Vila Franca do Campo, and it’s a convenient base for sightseeing, with everything within easy reach. There’s a Queijaria in town with fresh queijadas that I highly recommend trying. The house has the practical things covered too, from dishes and toiletries to barbecue firewood. A supermarket is a four-minute drive away. Parking at the house suits only small cars, but we had no trouble parking a large one 200 meters up the street. My dream house!

We stayed at Mr. DUARTE’s house at the end of April 2017. He’s a truly kind person, and the private garden with barbecue was fantastic. The traditional home was lovely and comfortable, very clean, and had all the comforts: washing machine, dishwasher, kettle, microwave and espresso machine, which we Italians appreciate. The rooms were comfortable too, as were the bathroom, dining room and living room.

If you enjoy a traditional, cosy place, this is a great fit. The garden is very nice, and the landlord was exceptionally friendly. Despite the COVID restrictions, he made it possible for us to vacation there and even did our shopping for us. The traditional style still comes with modern things like Wi-Fi, PS3, TV, washing machine and dishwasher. The driveway is so narrow that parking there is difficult or impossible.
