Feel Porto Wine Essence I

The upstairs apartment was fine, small but adequate, with no problems. My review is about the large apartment downstairs, which was a complete disaster. It was very dirty when we arrived, and the dampness and musty smell felt unhealthy. The humidity made it hard to sleep, and water seeped up through the floor across the apartment. The laundry room is right next door, adding to the dampness, and noise from the other apartments carried through completely. The bathroom doorknob was broken, so if I was alone, I got locked in and could only open it from the outside. It was awful.

The room had a comfortable bed and was well equipped with a microwave, kettle, toaster, coffee maker, dishes, washing machine and detergent. The location was good, and the staff were friendly and pleasant. I paid 30 euros for disinfection and cleaning, but during my five-day stay nobody came to clean, not even the shared entrance and hallways. The dusty room rug triggered an allergy attack. I asked for it to be cleaned, but the attacks continued. They then offered to remove the rug, and I felt better after that. Cleaning needs improvement. Good luck.

The worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. We couldn’t get the street entrance to open with the code they gave us, and only got inside after calling several times. There was a horrible smell of damp and dirt, so bad that we couldn’t sleep. I also found a puddle on the floor and have no idea where it came from, maybe the ceiling. The person who greeted us just collected the hotel tax and €100 deposit and offered no solution. An absolute disaster. I wouldn’t recommend it at all.

The staff were excellent from booking through check-in and all the help they gave us during the stay. We came from Coimbra and stayed in a clean, fully equipped apartment with modern design at Rua Luís de Camões n. 28, in Gaia. It suited us very well, with easy access to Ribeira and Cais de Gaia, Ribeira do Porto, and Porto itself. We recommend it and would keep it in mind for another visit.
