Forte de Gaia, Autograph Collection

The views across the city and river from this historic spot are breathtaking, and the location is hard to beat. We were warmly welcomed at Forte de Gaia, Autograph Collection, and the concierge team knew Porto well and went out of their way to plan our time. Breakfast had a great range of high-quality options, and everything else about the stay was handled with care. The setting, service, and amenities all came together beautifully. I’d highly recommend Forte de Gaia to anyone looking for a top stay in Porto.

The Douro River and city views are stunning, so book a room facing that way if you can. The hotel sits in Gaia, across the river from Porto, near the famous port wine houses. The staff are happy to help arrange a visit to one. Porto’s centre is also close: the steel bridge is nearby, and you can cross on its lower deck or take the cable car up to the upper level. I picked Forte de Gaia because it’s in the Marriott Bonvoy network as an Autograph Collection hotel, and I’m glad I did. It has its own character, with a warm contemporary design that’s a pleasure to look around. Breakfast has a wide selection of quality products, and the service is friendly throughout the hotel. Highly recommended.

We decided that same day to stay overnight in Porto, and within an hour of booking we were checked in, offered a complimentary drink of our choice, including non-alcoholic options, and found a personalized treat in our room. The hotel is beautiful, with every detail thoughtfully chosen to suit the decor. Our room was comfortable as well as lovely, and I only wish we’d had longer. The concierge messaged me on WhatsApp as soon as we arrived, so I could ask questions and book the hotel restaurant. The food there was delicious, and they had a sommelier on site. The location was perfect in Gaia’s hip port-producing neighborhood, within walking distance of the gondola that took us to the walking bridge across to Porto. We loved it and can’t wait to return.

We stayed three nights in late October, and this ranks among the nicest Marriott properties I’ve been to over the years as a Titanium Platinum member. Rogerio and the staff were true professionals, with impeccable service in a beautiful setting. The hotel looks across the river towards central Porto, with lovely views by day and especially at night. I’d suggest booking a river-view room. River tours are easy to reach just steps away, and the gondola gives you convenient access to central Porto and its many restaurants. Renata at the hotel served a great breakfast with plenty of quality choices, and the rooms are tastefully decorated with a relaxing feel. A great choice for a Porto visit.
