I was really excited about this place, but it was underwhelming for the price. The spa is very small and limited to timed 30-minute sessions. There was a strange smell from the water in the rooms, and our room wasn’t cleaned. Breakfast was just okay. The sushi experience was good, but it was basically overpriced restaurant takeout eaten inside. Eva was the one person who made the stay a little more enjoyable. She was so kind and helped me put together a small surprise for my boyfriend.

For the kind of experience you get, I found the stay pretty budget-friendly. The Ryokan style is quite niche, sure, but this hotel is worth its weight in gold. I’ll probably come back.

The sauna felt a little too cool for me since I'm used to 100°, though adding water to the stones lets you raise the heat. Afterward, there's a lovely spot to unwind with tea. I enjoyed the sauna and hidromassage bath, and I’d definitely like to try a massage next time. Thanks 👍

Tania gave us such a warm welcome, and her staff looked after us really well. We had a beautiful stay at Viseu Ryokan, a truly unique and special place.

The theme and decorations are really lovely, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. It’s such a treat to find a ryokan in Portugal. The staff clearly love working there, and the service was great. They also have an arrangement with a local Japanese restaurant, so food can be brought over quickly. The continental breakfast was nice too.
