Los Alpes Santa Teresa

The room and service were good, but we were deeply disappointed by how much smoking affected our stay. We seemed to be almost the only guests who didn't smoke. As an asthmatic, I couldn't enjoy the small yard because cigarette smoke filled it and made it impossible to breathe. We managed about an hour at the pool before smokers arrived and spent their time smoking there. Smoking wasn't allowed inside, thankfully, but the charming yard is enclosed by buildings, so the air barely circulates. I can't recommend it.

There are two separate pools, breakfast is included, and there was a good variety of tropical fruit. The staff were always friendly and ready to help. The place is clean and well maintained, with bedrooms and bathrooms in good condition, and the doors lock automatically after a couple of seconds, which felt reassuring. In my experience it was as good as the famous top hotels, but less expensive. I recommend it.

Construction noise, the awful smell of fresh paint in my room, and cockroaches made for a really bad stay. The hotel might be great if it paid closer attention to things, but the customer service was the worst I've ever seen. It tries to present itself as high-end, yet needs to put real work into improving the place instead of taking things for granted. I don't understand how it still has a four-star rating. I stayed at hotel Aloft the first time and should have gone back. Too bad.

The place has a nice atmosphere, though my room was a little run down and the faucet at the vanity leaked.
