I arrived about an hour early and asked if I could put my 60 lb backpack in the wooden box they use for safe keeping. A staff member told me to leave it in the laundry room. I saw him and his girlfriend slip in there and slowly close the door, so I grabbed my bag right away and stored it in the wooden box instead. Later, the cleaning boy confronted me about why I'd put my backpack in the box. His girlfriend had encouraged him to do it. I'd come in and out of the hostel five or six times and stored it the same way each time, but it seems to be under new management now. It felt like the cleaning boy and his girlfriend were trying to get people to leave their bags in the laundry room so they could lock themselves in there quietly to do who knows what. I don't trust anyone here. I don't think Lorenzo has the backbone to manage the property if the two of them are trying to run it for him and make decisions.

The beds had pretty good curtains, and the personal lights were dim and tasteful, without shining brightly on the other bunks. I was there a month or two ago. Calling it 4.7 stars is a stretch, but it's a better-than-average hostel: spacious, thoughtfully designed, social and generally well maintained. Most common areas are open-air, so weather and mosquitoes can be an issue. That wasn't a problem in the dorm where I stayed, though the bottom bunks creaked and the fridge smelled like it hadn't been cleaned in ages. It was very social while I was there. It seemed to draw European anti-vaxxers, probably because Paraguay has made it easy for Europeans to move there, rather than because of anything specific to the hostel. There were also cool people, including Asian and Latin Americam entrepreneurs and Russians who didn't want to go to war against Ukraine.

There are plenty of spots around the property to sit, unwind, or get some work done, and the atmosphere is really nice. This was my second stay, and the quality is still very good. The place is clean, and the dorm beds are unusually large.

A calm hostel where people respect your space. It works well if you're applying for residency: the owner helps with the paperwork without charging the steep fees you find through the well known rip-off channels. Search online for Paraguay Enjoyer.

The staff made me feel at home during my week-plus stay. They were friendly, helpful, and genuinely welcoming, and the kitchen was handy for cooking. I even had friends over for dinner a couple of times. There are hammocks for relaxing and a pull-up bar if you want to work out. The beds are huge, double-size mattresses with privacy curtains, which made them feel more like little hotel rooms. They were unbelievably comfortable. Mediterraneo Hostal is right in central Asunción, so it was easy to get to the government offices for my errands. One of the best hostels I've stayed at in Paraguay, whether you're exploring or just looking for somewhere cozy.
