The way Tava Glamping handled our concerns afterward was deeply disappointing. They refused a refund, saying an expert found “no signs” of bed bugs and calling it a small misunderstanding. The report they eventually sent was only a generic fumigation note. It didn’t mention bed bugs, say which cabin was checked, or explain how the inspection was done. It only said there was no “critical infestation,” acknowledged that isolated insects can occur indoors, and focused mainly on sealing cracks and adding door strips. That doesn’t disprove what we saw. They arranged the inspection for the following Monday, four days after we contacted them again. We’d looked forward to staying at Tava Glamping because the property is beautiful and surrounded by nature. But on Thursday, right after arriving, we checked the room and saw small insects crawling on the bed. I’m no expert, so I used an identification app; it suggested bed bugs. We took photos and videos and went straight to reception. At first, staff brushed it off as nothing. After checking the room, they said they couldn’t find anything, even though I looked again in front of them and saw four or five insects crawling on the bed. They still played it down, saying they didn’t know what they were but they surely weren’t bed bugs. I can’t be completely certain what the insects were either, but the response was unprofessional. The staff didn’t seem to know what bed bugs were. We searched for the Spanish term “chinches de cama” and showed them pictures and online articles, but they still couldn’t identify the insects or explain them. That’s alarming for a lodging business. They offered to move us to a supposedly superior cabin. When I opened the bed there, I found another insect of the same kind and mold on a pillow. The cabin clearly hadn’t been used for a while, so we left. Afterward, we spent days washing our clothes at 90°C, throwing some things away, paying for another hotel, and worrying about bringing bed bugs home. We understand that a natural setting means insects outdoors, and that’s what we wanted. We’re not picky guests. But insects on a bed, dismissed without a proper inspection, are alarming and unacceptable in any lodging. Even a slight suspicion of bed bugs should be taken seriously right away. I’m disappointed by the incident and by how irresponsibly it was handled. Such a beautiful place deserves better management and hygiene standards.
