Pensiunea Select

We were passing through and needed somewhere at the last minute after our previous booking was suddenly cancelled, so we spent a night at Pensiunea Select. The staff really stood out, they were kind, helpful, and spoke good English. The hotel is on the outskirts of Alba Iulia, so downtown took a few minutes by car. We had free parking, though, and the room was nice and quiet, so that wasn't a real complaint. The room had a fridge, a TV, a separate bathroom, and some amenities. Everything was clean and working properly, although the furniture and interiors felt a little retro and dated. The price included a choice of four breakfast menus. They looked appetizing and were quite rich in traditional calories, just the sort of retro-style hotel breakfast I like. Special diets aren't catered for, so there were no gluten-free or vegan options. In the coming days, we found that this seemed to be generally true across Romania in 2024. We had a really nice stay. I'd recommend Pensiunea Select, especially if you're passing through or exploring places in the area and want a base with great service, a quiet night's sleep, and a decent breakfast.

Breakfast comes with the room, and the restaurant is convenient and inexpensive. The food served during the day and evening was delicious too. A good place to stay for the night if you're visiting the Citadel of Alba Iulia.

It's a no-frills place, far from the city center, with large, well-ventilated rooms and free parking. The food isn't a foodie's delight, but lunches are perfect as long as you don't go overboard asking for fancy dishes. Prices for food and drinks are really good, the rooms are very clean, and the staff are kind and helpful. Guests are always welcomed, and they go all the way to please them. It's one of my personal favorites, and that's why I gave it 5 stars.

The receptionist was kind and gave us all the information we needed. We got in during the evening on our first night of a trip around Transylvania, stopping for a rest near Alba-Iulia, and had one of the best dinners in the county. We'll surely come back.
