Cabana Cumpana

We stopped here for lunch and thought the food was really good, especially for the prices. You get a nice view over Lake Vidraru while eating. The route through the forest is unpaved for about 7 km, but our ordinary sedan managed it.

The restaurant was serving moldy parmesan, and the water coming from the sink was yellow. The WiFi didn't work either, which made me wonder if visitors were having trouble posting reviews. The bathroom was horrible, with a yellow, dirty, disgusting bathtub. They describe the hotel as being by the lake, but there's a huge cliff between it and the water, so they should rethink what “by the lake” means. I can't understand how they charge 350 lei a night for this place. It's literally the worst hotel I've ever seen. Don't book it. Drive another half hour to the next village and stay there. This place isn't worth even a quarter of its price.

Getting here takes some effort since you have to follow a forest road for around 30 minutes. Once there, the view is amazing, the place is clean, and the staff are friendly. For a two-star stay, it was pretty much what I'd expect.

This is mostly about the bungalows. The lake and its fantastic views make for a superb location, with good options for water sports and swimming in summer. The bungalows themselves are filthy shacks in terrible shape: no heating or insulation, doors that barely shut, and mice roaming around. The toilets and showers in the outhouse were filthy and smelled bad. The price is far too high for what you get. Reception staff weren't wearing masks, and the access road is unpaved and in very bad condition. Also, don't trust the map pin by the main road. The place is actually 7 km farther along that road.
