Hotel Ave Lux

Breakfast was at least acceptable, though nothing special. The rest of the stay at Hotel Ave Lux was a letdown. The place looked decades old, with worn, crumbling furniture and a strange smell that seemed somewhere between mold and what I can only describe as decomposing Dracula. The key card failed every time we tried to get into our room. When we asked the housekeeper for help, she scolded us and sent us to reception instead. That wasn’t the hospitality we’d hoped for. The luxury seems to stop at the hotel’s name.

The room was dirty and badly managed, and it badly needs a proper cleaning. Everything looked rusty and grimy. Four lights didn’t work, some outlets had no power, and the hotel WiFi never showed up on any of our family’s devices. The old Sony TV had a useless remote, and the fan’s remote didn’t work either. There was no AC, and the bathroom ventilation was broken. The room smelled awful, even with the windows that could open. Only one window blind worked, and another window was completely broken and wouldn’t open.

The smell in the room was unbearable. I couldn’t breathe comfortably or sleep, and spent the night counting the minutes until morning, wondering how a place like this could still operate and have a permit. We arrived late in the evening in Braşov, tired and without a reservation, and chose Hotel Ave Lux because it had a night receptionist. We ended up spending eight hours in a room where everything was broken. What better way to spend a terrible night in Dracula country? Shame on you, Braşov!

The rooms were clean and the staff friendly, but the internet was very slow. Breakfast wasn’t good, either. There’s no elevator, so it’s not suitable for disabled people.
