Lac de Verde - Golf&Leisure Resort

We had trouble getting hot water on the first night, though the rooms were clean. The food was average and entirely traditional Romanian. For activities, I’d give it 4 stars: there was a nice wood fire in the evening with assorted finger foods. The place as a whole could use refurbishment.

The garden areas are full of trees and greenery, and there’s a sun terrace with a pool, which I liked. The place is nice, but the photos give a different impression, and the rooms need a lot of improvement. Even so, my stay was decent, with those caveats.

There’s a lot of potential here, and I’m sure it was great once, but it feels abandoned now. Repairs look like rough patch jobs. The room was clean, the view was great, the food was good, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. There’s plenty of green space to walk around, too. But there were problems everywhere. The bed was broken, so we could only sleep on half of it, though at least it was very large. The window was loose and wouldn’t close properly, with a gap of about 2-3 mm. The terrace kept the wind off it, at least. Some lights were broken, floor trim was missing in places, and the doors looked like they’d been brought back to life after a robbery, maybe two or three. The toilet seat had been fixed well, but it sat crooked. The toilet cistern lid was from a smaller, different model, making the whole thing look like it was assembled from 3-4 different seats. The TV was badly mounted and didn’t line up with the table, so watching it might give you neck pain. Paint was missing on the entrance wall. Around the large grounds, many rubbish bins hadn’t been emptied and looked nasty.

The service was abysmal, and the place was dirty, run-down, and nothing like it had been presented. Some rooms had no heat while others were like saunas. Basic things were missing, including shower gel, hand towels, and even toilet paper. The grounds weren’t properly maintained. Grass had been cut in some spots but not others, and the cuttings were left across paths. Hedges and trees hadn’t been trimmed, and playing golf was out of the question. The path lights didn’t work, and the paths got very slippery with even a little moisture. The restaurant was basic, and the servers were rude and unhelpful. The photo shows the view from my “room.”
