Hotel Berthelot is in a really convenient spot for getting around Bucharest. We had a pleasant stay, with a comfortable room and a decent selection at breakfast. There were a couple of small things I’d have liked: no kettle in the room, and there’s no free parking, even the underground parking is paid. Still, it’s a good hotel in a great location.
The staff were pleasant, especially the foreign reception staff, who were very polite and prompt. The location is convenient, and the area wasn’t too noisy. Still, I’ve stayed in cleaner 2-star hotels than this indulgent 3-star one. The room was very small, with little space around the bed, perhaps 9-10 square meters without the bathroom. The bathroom fixtures were old, unclean, and poorly maintained, and the hallway wasn’t heated. It feels like whoever runs the place is focused on maximizing profits with little regard for guest satisfaction.
The staff were very kind, and the location is excellent and central. If you only need a cheap place in the center, it may work. Otherwise, I don’t think it’s worth the price, and we certainly won’t return. The room and bathroom felt unclean, and the hotel didn’t meet the standards of a 4-star property. It felt more like a guesthouse or pensiune, in poor, outdated condition, almost frozen in time. The room amenities were below standard too. The television had visible pixel defects that made it uncomfortable and difficult to watch. Breakfast was especially disappointing and didn’t look like the photos. The products seemed very low quality, with no details about their origin or specifications. Since I’m pregnant, I couldn’t tell whether any dairy was pasteurized or safe to eat, so there was very little I felt comfortable having. Parking also costs an extra 50 RON per day.
There are some very nice restaurants, bars, and cafes nearby, and the hotel is centrally located. The rooms are all clean, though some are quite small. The breakfast could be better, in my opinion.
The room looked renovated and had a good amount of space, but that didn't make up for the bugs we found on the bed sheets and table. It was disgusting and really disappointing. The staff didn't seem very interested in guests, either. We were there just one night, which was enough to know this isn't a hotel worthy of its stars. The location is good, but that's about all I can say for it. We won't return, and I can't recommend it.
