Hotel Cismigiu

The staff were very polite, and the hotel seemed fairly well maintained. I stayed for a week, though the rooms could have been cleaner and better equipped. I asked twice for a vanity kit and never got one. Breakfast was very average, and the coffee machine takes ages to pour a cup, so I can imagine the wait when it's busy. It's a decent hotel, but massively overpriced for what it offers.

It was in a great location, and the room was clean and well appointed, with robes. Breakfast was included and excellent. I'd definitely recommend it.

The rooms are roomy and cleaned every day, and there’s an extra duvet, an ironing board and iron, and a hairdryer in the room. The location is great, with everything within walking distance. There’s also a full fridge of drinks and alcohol available for a charge. Breakfast was the letdown for me: the same continental choices each day, and not much variety. That’s why I gave it 3 stars.

The location is the strongest point here. It’s on the north-west edge of Bucharest’s Old Town, with restaurants on the side streets, shops nearby and a convenience store across the road. Central Old Town is an 8-minute walk away. Universitate on the M2 and Piața Unirii, which connects to M1 and M5, are both about a 10-minute walk. We booked a superior queen suite on a hotel corner, with a good boulevard view. The lounge and dining area had a large coffee table and a TV, while the bedroom was small and short on space, with another TV. There was some street noise. The room had tea and coffee supplies, a coffee machine, a minibar with snacks, soft drinks and alcohol for purchase, a safe, hanging space, a decent hairdryer and bathrobes. Bottled water was provided each day. Breakfast was sufficient but very basic, so 2/5 for that. On level 6 in the hotel restaurant, it was the usual Western spread: scrambled and hard-boiled eggs, bacon, cheese, salad, some pastries, jam and honey, cereal and fresh bread, with self-serve tea and coffee. There was lots of seating, but the breakfast staff were unfriendly and unwelcoming. The room condition was the real problem. I found a dirty used teaspoon in the cupboard, a used sugar packet and plastic wrappers on the floor, and the floor itself was so dirty my bare feet turned black. The bedroom pillows smelled of saliva, and the sofa, rug and walls were stained. The personal mirror in the bathroom was filthy, and the bathroom smelled of sewage. How did housekeeping miss that after “cleaning”? Tea and coffee weren’t replenished, and the ceiling air-conditioning vent beeped the whole time. It looked like a rushed clean, even though we checked in at 5:30 pm, against the hotel’s 3 pm policy. After unpacking, who wants to change rooms? At checkout, nobody even asked how the stay was. Where was the manager at breakfast, or anyone supervising the staff? This felt like a 2-star hotel with a 4-star location. I wouldn’t recommend it. An Uber to OTP airport at 7:15 am on Saturday cost 50 Ron and took 30 minutes. The trip from OTP to another nearby hotel on Thursday at 2:30 pm had taken 1 hour 15 minutes and cost 100 Ron.
