Green House is Bucharest’s version of that little hidden place in a big city that feels like a good-value secret. It’s simple, just a bed for the night, with some old character that leaves you wondering what the area used to be: a hospital, a brewery, something military? No frills, but a bit intriguing. In Belgrade, Villa Forever comes to mind.

The price is good, the room was clean, and the staff were helpful. There’s a huge parking area, so I can see it suiting truck drivers. The surroundings feel industrial, with lots of potholes and pavement that hasn’t been repaired. The hotel has two buildings; we stayed in green house 2. On our second day the water stopped running, so I had to shower in another room about 100m away. The drain pipe was blocked, so a room without running water is possible.

The rooms were clean and tidy, but one of ours had a portable air conditioner that sent the warm air into the bathroom. We also couldn’t find any signs showing which building to go to or where reception was. We left a little disappointed.

The place is quiet, near the uzines, and the guys at reception are cool. It works well for a couple of days. I did miss having a kitchen, though. You can’t cook anything, and there’s no microwave either.
