Hotel International Bucharest

The hotel feels new, but also a bit low-cost. Our room was modern and spacious, though the amenities didn't feel up to four-star standards. In the bathroom, the shower gel, shampoo, and soap were single-use and only supplied for one person despite our double room. The hairdryer was very basic, almost decorative, the bidet had a mesh screen that seemed to show whoever installed it didn't know what it was for, and the lighting was poor. Breakfast had plenty of choice: cereal, fresh fruit, yogurt, cold cuts, cheese, boiled eggs, omelets, sausages, frankfurters, bacon, and even French fries. There were two espresso machines, which was nice, but the milk was UHT rather than fresh, and that took away from the coffee's taste. The breakfast selection was repeated in the description, but the range was the same. There is a large private parking lot, and we were pleased to see an electric charger, at least briefly. Reception said we could use it on request, but they'd need to unlock it with a key. When we asked, they couldn't find the key. The receptionist apologized and said, “the boss charged his car earlier and may have taken the key with him.” So it seems the charger is for the bosses, while clients only get to see it.

The location is great, and the staff and service are really nice. It does get too quiet at night, though.

Our trip was cancelled, and although we'd booked a room without a cancellation option, the management listened to our request and agreed to cancel it for free. Their customer service went above and beyond. We'll surely stay here when we get the chance to visit Bucharest.

The room felt like a tomb, with wood everywhere, awful design, and wallpaper peeling off the wall. The hotel looks stuck in the communist era, and I doubt it's been renovated since before the 2008 crisis. At a price of around 300-400 euro a night, it's unbelievable that it still has four stars. The room had no complimentary still water, and the shower was broken in several places, spraying water everywhere. Even with the button set for the shower head, water kept pouring from above. Other basics were poor too. The old TV only had cable, and the internet barely worked near the entrance, with no signal at the bed, balcony, or bathroom. I reported the heating problem twice, but it wasn't fixed until morning, after I complained again. The person sent up said the heaters were off. I left with a headache and a cold. The elevators were badly managed and very slow, with waits of up to 30 minutes. There are three restaurants, but only two were open. The food was below average for a four-star hotel, and the staff seemed forced to be there. The employees' attitude toward guests was nasty. They blamed me for not reporting the heating issue again, even though I had called twice. The manager didn't listen either, whether because she didn't care or because that's the policy: shift blame and offer no kind word, explanation, or gesture to keep a customer. It was just, “we are sorry, it’s your fault, we are sorry to see you leave.” I hope you really are sorry that I won't spend money at your “hotel” again. I'll never return. Awful place, and I met no nice people working there. Avoid it.
