The Floor Piata Unirii

We felt completely misled and would never recommend this place. They’ve since changed the name to “The tube of old town” and are using pictures of the actual place. The Booking address they first gave us was wrong, perhaps for legal reasons, and we had to walk a bit to reach a different guesthouse. We’d stayed at that other place before and it was actually pretty good. This one looked very different from the photos. Based on earlier reviews, it seems to be a different place now. I took pictures. The room was on a basement level, something they hadn’t mentioned. It was dirty, with a bug in the toilet, webs in the corners, and plastic and a beer can behind the minibar. There were no windows, the fresh paint smell was strong, and the air conditioner worked poorly. Its leaking water flooded the floor in under three hours. When we raised the issue, the owner told us to clean it ourselves. We later found there were no blankets either. I went upstairs to ask for one, and he said he’d bring it in 10 minutes. An hour later my girlfriend asked again, and he yelled at her, said blankets weren’t allowed in summer, and said he couldn’t do anything about the water on the floor. There were several spare rooms available, also open, apparently because of the strong paint smell, that could have solved the problem. We booked mainly because of the kitchen, but there was nothing to dry cups or plates with, not even towels to keep things tidy. They use Wi-Fi from another guesthouse rather than having their own. The owners don’t know how to treat guests and clearly aren’t prepared to deal with tourists. It was an awful deal. We’d stayed at the other guesthouse upstairs before; it was cheaper and much better, and its staff were 1000 times better prepared. It was sad after an otherwise amazing week in Romania.

The place is nothing like what was advertised, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. The rooms had no windows, weren’t clean, and smelled unbearably of paint. A loose air conditioner pipe soaked the floor with water; when I told the owner, he said we should clean it ourselves. There were no blankets, and when I asked him again, he yelled at me and said not to bother him because he was on the phone. I’ve never been treated that way anywhere, and hope no one else is either.

We arrived at 22:30 after a delayed flight, even though check-in ended at 22:00. The owner refused to let us in, leaving us homeless for the night in a foreign country at -9°. We weren’t even refunded for that night. It was horrible, and I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

The location is good, but the place was in terrible condition and nothing like the description. The bed was broken, and the mattress and pillows were dirty. I couldn’t take it anymore and had to leave early.
