The Midland Hostel

Getting around was easy since the hostel is close to public transport, and there are a few good places to eat nearby. The staff also helped us get in touch with a local guy who offered a cheap, no-fuss car rental. During our stay, someone broke his arm while arm wrestling and an ambulance came. The price was decent, the staff were helpful, and I had an awesome stay.

For the price, Midland is incredible value. It has clean rooms, comfortable beds, a good kitchen, a handy location, and friendly staff. I can't imagine finding a better hostel in Bucharest. If you're staying here, I'd pick this place. A+++.

I've stayed here twice, and it became one of my favorite hostels anywhere. The atmosphere is what brought me back, and all the staff are just awesome. It's hard not to feel at home here, and people seem reluctant to leave.

The people here made this one of my favorite hostel experiences socially. Staff were unusually inclusive compared with places I've stayed elsewhere, often hanging out in the common room instead of staying behind the desk. Some even came by when off duty, which says a lot about the friendly atmosphere. It isn't a party hostel or a quiet one, and staff sometimes invite guests out on the town when they go, if that's your thing. There was a nice mix of people from different countries, and staff were helpful with local plans and ideas for exploring outside Bucharest. The wifi was fine. It's about a 20-minute walk to Old Town, with small shops and full-service grocery stores just a block or two away. The place isn't fancy or especially attractive, but it was clean and smoke-free, and cost about 8.50 Euros a night ($10). Lockers are available with a key deposit, and there's a kitchen and fridge. I had no trouble keeping my food safe there. I only had a sleep problem on my last night. I had an early start to get to the airport, pick up my rental car, and leave Bucharest. Some travelers came in late and played music and guitar loudly in the common area. I think I was the only person in my room, and the hostel was pretty empty, which made the timing ironic. I'd definitely return if I'm in Bucharest again. I realized how special the place was after I'd left.
