Even as a Romanian, this is one of my favourite places in the country. We’ve been coming back almost every year for close to 15 years, and we still arrive just as excited. The staff are incredibly kind, the rooms combine rural style with modern comfort, and the traditional Romanian food is among the tastiest you’ll try. It’s a varied, full experience of Transilvania. I wholeheartedly recommend it for families or big groups of friends.

Viscri is beautiful, so we left satisfied, though dinner had some drawbacks. At checkout we learned that glasses of wine weren’t included, even though the lady had described dinner as a “full menu, Schnaps included” and hadn’t made the limits clear. The meal cost 29 euros per person and felt overpriced for its simple ingredients. The booking confirmation also had a peculiar rule against consuming outside food on the premises, which effectively pushed us to eat there. We booked on their own website, which was significantly cheaper than using third-party intermediaries. The accommodation is tastefully furnished with high-level amenities, and parking is available on site.

A beautiful garden and traditional food make this place feel very authentic for a rural setting. The food and drinks are locally prepared, and the service is warm and friendly without overdoing it.

The village is lovely for a night or two if you want to reminisce about rural life, and the guesthouse is well located with tasteful design. It feels a step up from other guesthouses in the village. Breakfast and dinner are simple, honest meals made with locally sourced ingredients, and the attentive staff are well trained. Our room was good, but rather dim, with poor ventilation. A shower quickly overwhelmed the tiny bathroom window, and without window netting we had to choose between excess humidity and letting mosquitoes and other insects in. There was no Wi-Fi signal in the room. At checkout I was charged for three glasses of wine I hadn’t drunk. I was rushing to my next destination and didn’t dispute it, but the mistake reflected poorly on the administration.
