After a long morning walking through the snow, we had lunch here, and it was the best meal I had during my stay in Rumania. We had two soups, one bean soup served inside bread and one pheasant soup, plus two salads: peppers stuffed with cabbage and beetroot. With bread, sparkling water, and coffee, the bill was just 62 lei (15€). The bean soup and peppers stuffed with chucrut were especially tasty. We really enjoyed the meal, and the service was excellent. The decor was a little kitschy and scary, but also really interesting. The staff didn’t speak much English, just enough words to understand us. I think they speak German too, since the waiter mixed German words in with English.

The menu has some hearty options, from venison stew with peppers and polenta to roast boar and Romanian bulz with farm cheese, sour cream, and butter. If you're passing through hungry on the way to or from the mountains, this could be a good stop. The produce is fresh; just ask ahead if you prefer your meat rare. George, the owner and host, is happy to talk about his hunting trips and show his trophies, with stories from the Carpathians to African wildlands. There are 18 rooms too if you want to stay overnight.

Whenever I'm in Busteni (poiana-tapului), I like stopping here for a meal. The staff, Marian & Christy, are lovely, and the food is traditional Romanian. The venison medallions are especially good.

The hot hunting dish is well worth trying. The restaurant has a great traditional Romanian feel, with very good food and service. This review is just about the restaurant.

Such a shame about the lovely decor. We waited more than two hours, the food came out raw, and the service was awful. It felt more like a fancy museum than a place to eat.
