Pensiunea Liana

After a long, hot day hiking the Via Transylvanica, we were so glad to reach Liana's place in Nemșa. Liana looked after us wonderfully, greeting us with cold water and serving a tasty dinner and breakfast the next morning. We enjoyed relaxing in the comfortable chairs on the balcony. The little village is quiet, and her place feels like an oasis at its center. We had a lovely one-night stay.

Please think carefully before booking here. We left after just two hours, and the owner refused a refund, so we contacted booking.com. The owner knew about our problems but didn't seem interested in addressing them. The place may look cute and peaceful, but we had a very unpleasant stay. There was no electricity, let alone Wi-Fi, and the village had no services. As two women, we felt unsafe and left in heavy rain because we couldn't contact anyone if there was an emergency. Luckily, we found a last-minute place in the nearest city. The closest restaurant was 15 km away along the rocky road, and despite the listing mentioning dinner for an extra charge, the owner provided no meals. That felt like a scam. The rooms connect to the owner's house, so she could enter at any time. They looked clean but smelled bad. The terrace leaked in the rain, and we were told we couldn't sit downstairs in the garden or under the roof, leaving only the leaky terrace or our bed. Getting there meant driving about 10 km from the main road over rocks and sand. Once in the small, poor-looking village, we felt like outsiders as people stared at us. Communication was difficult because the owner spoke only Romanian, not English, German, or any other language. If you're not Romanian, I'd look for somewhere else in the area.

A great pick!

We came away disappointed. The accommodation is quite nice, but from beginning to end we felt unwelcome, so I can't recommend Pension Liana. We'd hiked to Nemsa, and the nearest restaurant was around 15 km away, which made the host's suggestion to eat out especially inappropriate. We'd registered ahead for the vegetarian dinner and received a friendly confirmation. When we asked soon after arriving what time and how dinner would work, we couldn't explain ourselves in person, mainly because we don't speak Romanian and the host doesn't speak English. We tried again by text with a Romanian translator. Once the hostess understood, she replied rather rudely that at about 6 p.m. nobody at the house could cook us anything vegetarian and we should go to a restaurant. We weren't upset that our dinner registration had been forgotten. It was the response that made us feel unwelcome. Even getting into the accommodation had been difficult, and when we were shown to our room there was no explanation at all. We were confused, since we expected at least a few words about the room and facilities.
