Getting around here is easiest by car, since trains and other public transport don't make the place very accessible. Once you arrive, though, it's a lovely quiet mountain retreat in the heart of Romania, with several guesthouses and hotels. There are marked spots for cars and camper vans, and the area works well as a starting point for hiking trails. Cheia Monastery is also worth a visit.

The views are stunning, and the trekking routes are fairly easy. It's the most beautiful, breathtaking mountain I've seen. Definitely worth seeing.

From the base of Mt Ciucas, trails lead toward Ciucas, Muntele Rosu (Red Mountain), Gropsoarele and Zaganu. You can drive to Red Mountain Cabin (Romania). Hiking there is another matter, though: one route follows the road for much of the way, which may make for a less enjoyable walk and a different experience.

The cabin has lots of wood, and there's a superb balcony on the first floor. I really liked the scenery, the fresh air and the backyard. Amazing!
