Hotel Class

It’s handy for walking around town and having a supermarket next door, but the hotel feels past its prime and overpriced. The air conditioning didn’t work, I couldn’t get a second key card, and breakfast wasn’t anything special. There were no vegetarian choices, either. When I said I didn’t eat meat, they still made bacon at first.

For a no-frills place, this is a decent, solid three-star hotel. The location is excellent, on the edge of the old city. There’s a grocery shop, newspaper stand, farmer’s market and archaeological park close by, with Piata Ovidiu and the old town’s main restaurant strip only minutes away. I didn’t try the included breakfast. If you need to work, be aware that the internet can be slow and unreliable.

I arranged a conference in the restaurant area, and the experience with the manager was very negative. He wasn’t supportive and didn’t seem willing to understand the inconvenience he was causing us. They charged the full-day rate for half a day, yet provided no drinks or snacks for the guests. The next day, they let strangers eat there and play board games while our conference was going on. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel for events.

The bed was great and the service very good, but the heat in my room couldn’t be turned off, so it got really hot. That might be useful in winter, but not in summer. Some rooms also feel unsafe because they connect to the roofs of nearby buildings, meaning you have to keep the window closed.
