Hotel Maria

Really friendly, excellent service, a clean and comfortable room, and tasty breakfast. I left my wallet in the room and they called me about it very quickly :D. If I come back to Constanta, I'll stay at hotel Maria again.

We had an early train, so the hotel's location by the rail station, just across the park, worked perfectly. The rooms were clean, modern, and good value. It's about a 15-minute walk to the sea or old town, and plenty of buses run along the road beside it. We didn't try breakfast, though it looked good.

I've stayed at this hotel many times over the past 8 years, for anything from one night to 7-10 nights in a row. It's very clean in general, and the staff are always friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet usually has lots of choices, with egg dishes made fresh to order. During the pandemic, there wasn't a buffet, so guests had to make do with prepared lunch boxes, as was the case elsewhere under those restrictions. The location suits me, close to the main train station, with plenty of parking and all the main areas reachable in less than 10 minutes. The rooms are okay, though some could do with refurbishment.

The breakfast is still as good as it used to be, with an okay selection like most 3-4 star hotels. The coffee machine uses soluble coffee, but it's not bad. The dining room tablecloths, though, are dirty and look as if they haven't been changed in ages. I was really disappointed because this used to be a very good hotel. The hallway and rear rooms smell strongly of cigarette smoke, and opening the window makes it worse, probably because people smoke there. My room was fairly clean but looked very old, and the shower head needs descaling. Some other rooms have newer doors and seem renovated. The sheets were bright white and good quality, while the towels looked clean but were almost grey.
