Hotel Megalos

The buffet was disappointing, with cheap food and about half of it cold. There was no air conditioner remote in the room. Reception told me it wasn't summer and they didn't have remotes. On our last morning, there was no hot water, and when I asked them to fix it, the response was, “everything should be fine!” That was all. This is the worst hotel I've come across in recent years. The room smelled of mold, the carpet was dirty, and the plumbing was stained.

We booked two rooms for two nights, but were very disappointed as soon as we arrived on the first day. The reception area was the best part. Breakfast was limited and not good, so we checked out the next day to salvage the trip and booked another hotel.

The only person who provided somewhat better service was the woman at check-in. When I asked the receptionist working Friday, Sept 1, 2023 for replacement pillows, he assured me he'd speak to housekeeping and send some, but nothing arrived. Poor customer service. I slept only 3-4 hours a night and woke up with bad back pain. The bed was worn out and sagged from so much use. The cheap sheets made me overheat and sweat, and left me itchy. The pillows were the worst I've ever had. I hadn't thought pillows could be that bad. The balcony was separated with a plastic sheet, but it was see-through, so the neighbours could look around and into our room. Noisy American neighbours made sleep even harder, slamming doors, playing loud music, and swearing. Breakfast was bad too. The sausages were tasteless and floating in water, the scrambled eggs were full of oil, and the vegetables seemed like plastic. The yogurt was the only good thing. This accommodation was booked for me by mistake, but I decided to stay anyway, and that was a mistake.

The staff were very polite and tried hard to keep guests happy, but the hotel is so old they couldn't change that. The furniture is very dated, and everything outside the bathroom needs renovation. The walls are paper-thin, so you can hear everything the neighbours say or do in the next room. Getting from the entrance up the steps to reception is a struggle, especially with luggage for a stay of several days. You need to be pretty fit to carry it up.
