Hotel Rexton

A real Romanian experience, in the worst way. This may have been a grand place ten years ago, but it feels like the cleaning lady, handyman, and maintenance team were all let go. The windows are filthy and won’t open, and the air conditioner is dirty and only heats the room. You can hear everything through the thin walls. Breakfast meant cold scrambled eggs and fried cheese. The Wi-Fi wasn’t good either, though borrowing a router from reception helped. The rooms are big, which is why I’m giving two stars. Everything else was disgusting.

The restaurant was the best part of my stay. The food was outstanding, truly five-star quality. The ownership and staff were also wonderful, friendly, and professional. Still, this isn’t a four-star hotel in my view. The rooms were a decent size and the furnishings seemed fairly new, but cleanliness was poor. The carpet in room 102 was filthy, and during my two nights the room was almost unbearably hot. It was July, but something was wrong and nobody fixed it.

The hotel staff were great and did what they could to help, even though most couldn’t speak English. The rooms looked very outdated, with quick fixes that were unpleasant to look at. Wi-Fi was awful throughout my stay, and the bathroom needs a major overhaul.

The restaurant serves good food at reasonable prices, and the people are kind. The rooms are nice, too, but the four-star rating didn’t impress me. Many rooms, except those on the top floor, have no terrace, and the window view isn’t great. There’s only an electric kettle, so you can’t cook your own food. Don’t bring meals expecting to prepare them there.
