We had a lovely stay and will definitely come back. The family who runs the place really captures the spirit of Maramures, and Anca and Madam Irina made us feel welcome. The food was amazing, especially being able to catch our own trout and have it cooked for us. Our room was spacious and clean, and there was a pool, sauna, and kids’ play park too.

This place has so much to keep you there that getting out to explore, or leaving when you planned, might be a challenge :D The outdoor hot saltwater pool has jacuzzi-like bubbles and is called a ciubăr; there’s also a warm indoor pool, sauna, saline, and tanning room. It’s a full experience with local people, decor, traditions, and products, and the hosts are great.

We ate really well, with traditional homemade food, and the accommodation was good too. The one drawback was the wooden bedrooms. The wood creaks loudly, and you can hear your neighbors all the time.

There are lots of tourist attractions nearby, so there’s plenty to see while staying here. The place itself has an old-time charm that brought 19th- and early 20th-century Romania to mind. Kids have a playground, there are both salty-water and regular pools, a saline, and a spot to buy trout. Prices are accessible to ordinary people, the food is delicious with plenty to choose from, and the hosts are very hospitable. I enjoyed my time here.

The salt mine was soothing, and the wooden chalet had traditional Romanian handicrafts throughout. Anca and her parents were wonderful hosts. Most of the food was home grown, with pigs kept on the property and trout fished while you wait.
