Hotel Traian

The staff were friendly and professional, and we liked the view, especially from the upper floors. Unfortunately, the Danube is only visible from the hallway. The rooms were spacious and clean, and heating comes from the air conditioning. There’s free parking and a taxi stand right outside. The reception has a charming mid-80s feel. At about 30 euros a night without breakfast, it’s great value for its class. We didn’t try the breakfast.

It felt like stepping back into the Soviet period. I was born in the USSR and traveled a lot with my parents in the 80s, so the lobby, architecture, and furniture brought back childhood memories. I enjoyed the atmosphere as it is. The rooms are still much as they were back then and need renovation. The air conditioning didn't work, and the sink and toilet were partly broken. The old furniture was okay, and both the service and food were good. Travelers less interested in history might find the living conditions disappointing.

The difference between the two-star and three-star rooms is huge, and even the corridor looks worse on the two-star side. Still, it was a decent place for an overnight stay. The staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast tasted good.

I'm glad this old communist-era hotel is still open and clean when so many older buildings have been abandoned. The interior has had some updates, including furniture, doors, windows, and one of its two elevators. They accept credit and debit cards. My room had a mini fridge but no minibar, an old CRT television, and decent furniture. The views from the windows were very nice, though the bug screen was broken. The fire safety instructions taped inside the door looked ancient, photocopied from typewritten originals. Surely they could put up current ones. Arriving at night, I found the lobby quite dim, though I understand they may be trying to save on electricity. Thank you!
