La Ponton

We’d booked rooms by phone and said we’d arrive later in the evening, but the hosts gave them to other people anyway. When we asked what had happened, they were rude and disrespectful. We never ended up staying. It was the worst experience I’ve had, and I’d tell people to keep well away from this pension.

The view is beautiful and the place itself is nice, but our bathroom had mould, even though the rooms were otherwise clean. There’s no outdoor lighting, so once it gets dark it feels like you have to go straight to bed. The website says the restaurant and kitchen are closed, which makes you expect to be able to cater for yourself, but the host wouldn’t allow barbecues and got frustrated when we didn’t buy from her. It’s written everywhere that the restaurant is closed. I can only guess that this may be because what they’re trying to do isn’t legal and they aren’t paying taxes on the things they sell. She also kicked some people out in the middle of the night after they were listening to music on a phone outside. I asked about extra rooms for friends, but when I said they’d arrive the next day, she no longer wanted to give them rooms. Really bad customer service. I don’t recommend going there, there are plenty of beautiful places with better hosts.

The balcony was the highlight for me, with an amazing view. I enjoyed the stay enough to add another night. The rooms were simple, nothing luxurious, but clean and had all the usual basics. Breakfast came with the stay; it was okay, and they tried to vary it each day. The food was good, and the restaurant on the pontoon has a great view as well. There’s a pool with loungers, and people were fishing there too. They can arrange Danube boat trips, with pickup right at "La Ponton". We had a really nice time.

Just before we arrived for our one-night stay, they called to say the rooms we’d reserved had been given to someone else. The phone conversation was rude and completely unprofessional, and they even hung up while we were still talking. I wouldn’t recommend this place. You can find a pension with the same view and much kinder, more polite people.
