Hotel Restaurant Ciuperca-hunedoara

The bathroom was the biggest letdown. The toilet leaked onto the floor when flushed, and the marks from an older leak were already there when I arrived. The shower cabin had green stuff in its corners, possibly mold or fungus, though I didn’t inspect it closely. There was also dust on the tiles below the bathroom window. The bed linen and towels were clean, and there were bars of soap, but nowhere to put one in the bathroom. I stayed one night in an apartment for 180 Romanian LEI (RON), about 40-45 euros, for three people. It wasn’t too expensive for that. The apartment had two fairly large rooms, each with a double bed, a small TV and only one remote between them. The mattresses were poor, with springs I could feel while sleeping. The rooms were spacious and fairly nicely decorated, with a balcony on the west side that got plenty of afternoon sun. That wasn’t an issue in May, when it wasn’t too hot, but without air conditioning the rooms could get very warm in hotter weather. The hotel looks decent and quite attractive, though a little old and not very well maintained. There’s a large pool, which I didn’t use, and a restaurant where I ate twice. The food was good, but the service could have been better: one time the server seemed to forget about me. They also seemed short-staffed.

The rooms were very small, the TVs had no signal, and there was no air conditioning. The pool water was very dirty and cold, with no hot water. The food was awful: I found a wire in one slice of pizza and mold on another. When I showered, the shower door nearly fell on me, and we weren’t given a bottle of soap. The boss was very aggressive and shone a flashlight at the windows to see what people were doing in their rooms. A very bad hotel; I don’t recommend it.

The room was spacious, the pool was nice, and there were cold drinks. In the afternoon and evening, quite a big young crowd from town hangs out at the bar and restaurant. At night, the street dogs outside bark a lot, which is rough on hot summer nights when you need to leave a window open.

The staff were great, and the rooms by the pool had lovely views, but the rooms need work. The mattresses were so worn down I could feel every old spring, and the TV was about the size of a small tablet. The walls are thin too, so we heard locals partying all night. They’re renovating, though, so the experience might be completely different in a few weeks.
