Hotel Rusca

Getting any rest was impossible. You could hear everything happening out on the street all night, and the hallway and stairs smelled of smoke. The doors slammed so loudly that half the floor woke up, especially when guests didn’t pay attention. The air conditioning was weak and noisy. Breakfast was poor and low quality; I’d give better food to animals. There wasn’t enough parking space either. We stayed one night, already one more than we should have.

When we thought we’d finally found somewhere at Rusca, we were told that three dogs were too many, even though two were small, one was medium-sized, and all were well behaved and used to travelling. My mother had crossed half the country without sleep or rest because hotels either don’t accept pets or aren’t available for check-in 24/7. So people passing through Romania are apparently meant to sleep in their cars. Shame on Romania; when it comes to being pet-friendly, it’s still a third-world country.

It’s very good value for money. I got a free upgrade to a better room without even asking, and it was spacious and clean. The afternoon receptionist spoke only a little English, but we managed to communicate. WiFi and A/C were good. Breakfast was included and OK, with eggs, sausages, ham, orange drink and classic Nescafé from a machine. Corvin Castle is about 25 minutes away, and there are various food options, a large supermarket and a taxi stand nearby.

The staff were really friendly and helpful, and the location has a nice view with lots of restaurants nearby. Highly recommend it!
