Hostel Andrei

The bathroom was spacious and clean, and the place felt comfortable. Check-in was easy, and I really enjoyed my stay. There aren't many luggage storage options in the room, so more would be helpful. I booked an extra night directly at the hostel and was charged more than the rate I got on booking.com. I think that's unfair, though overall I liked the place.

The place was beautifully renovated and kept up to a high standard. Rooms are spacious, the beds are big, and everything was clean, heated, and warm through winter. The hosts were very kind and helpful, and reachable by phone whenever needed. It was excellent value. It's a little far from the centre, and there's no stove for cooking, though there is a microwave.

I felt right at home here. It's the cleanest, quietest, most comfortable hostel I've stayed in. Hostel Andrei is ideally placed near the university and student cafeteria, and within walking distance of the centre, train station, bus station, and Copou park. Whether you're in town for work, travelling, or just passing through, it's a good option. You can also have coffee or tea and chat with the other nice people staying there. I really enjoyed my time ❤️

A couple of things woke me up at night: the heavy metal front door slams hard, and the noise carries through the whole building. The closing mechanism could be adjusted so it doesn't sound like a prison gate. It would also help if guests got the entry code, instead of having to let people in late at night. Still, this is a great, cheap place. It's very clean, in an old building, and the kitchen gets lots of light. I like the business model too. Staff aren't around much, probably in the middle of the day, and guests are asked to leave the fee, about 14 Euro. It runs on trust, as hostels do when people share rooms and their belongings. That way they don't spend money on staff waiting around all day for stragglers like me. I also appreciate how the manager answers criticism. The replies to bad reviews make good points and show a bit of annoyance. He stands up for himself, which is a welcome change from the usual corporate copy-paste apology promising to investigate a complaint as a priority. Sure. It's right in the centre of this beautiful city, another reason to stay when visiting the former capital of Moldova.
